Project Overview:

At Dice, we’ve worked tirelessly to position ourselves as the go-to engineering firm for offsite projects. This has led to us being named as an engineering consultancy of choice for MMC providers and the schemes they’re involved in, with a particular emphasis on modular residential developments. This includes some exciting projects such as the net-zero carbon housing development, Trent Basin in Nottingham, and the fully affordable housing scheme, Radford Street (with Bassetlaw District Council).

Dice is a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy operating nationally. Our diverse experience and expertise offers intelligent civil and structural engineering design suited for a world driven by technology and interaction. Since founding the organisation our directors understood the potential benefits and positive impact that MMC can have on the construction sector. As such we have worked tirelessly to develop a niche offering by positioning ourselves as the engineering consultancy of choice for MMC schemes, with an emphasis on modular residential projects.

This includes building an ongoing successful partnership with Ilke Homes, who have identified us as their ‘engineer of choice’ across a range of schemes. This partnership  has not only allowed us to develop a deep understanding of the MMC sector, but we have also then supported with product innovation by identifying limitations of the  modular system and helping Ilke to strengthen their offering. Innovation in general is at the heart of what we aim to deliver. While MMC expertise is often focused  in the education and healthcare sectors, we’ve set ourselves apart by honing in on the residential sector, in a bid to collaborate on building homes which are more sustainable and better for the planet.

Developments that offer the opportunity to engineer for the common good are where we thrive. With sustainability as one of our core values and at the heart of everything that we do, we like to challenge the norm and pursue a design agenda that will make a real impact on our projects. An example of such is our ongoing work as part of the team on the Trent Basin project, a net-zero carbon housing development by Igloo Regeneration and Blueprint. As experts in offsite residential projects, we were asked to provide specialist advice on MMC options to minimise operational and embodied carbon emissions.

Having worked with the team to develop a bespoke carbon calculator tool, we were then able to achieve a significant reduction in the embodied carbon content target
(details of which will be provided later in the application). As well as our sustainability core value, Dice was also founded on offering excellent customer service, and putting technology at the heart of everything we do. With a conscientious approach to commercial factors, we aim to exceed our client’s expectations on every project and to offer solutions that are truly innovative.

One way that we achieve this is by taking a modern approach to our designs, working exclusively with BIM tools such as REVIT and Site 3D. We incorporate bespoke  engineering design techniques, and our technology-first approach helps us to increase precision and accuracy, and reduce errors and waste on site.
