Project Overview
Ocean Academy, built on Constitution Hill Road, Poole will be a three-form entry junior school, run by Aspirations Academies Trust, opened in September 2015. The Borough of Poole awarded The McAvoy Group responsibility for the design and construction of the project. 90% of the gross building floor area construction was designed for off-site modular construction. Strategic partnering with M&E supply chain members allowed McAvoy to start the commissioning process early in delivery, front loading efforts at design stage to address potential faults and simplify services within the building before installation. McAvoy assigned an experienced team to the project that together with our partnering design and delivery suppliers successfully implemented their collaborative client engagement process to ensure the project was delivered on programme and within budget.
Early engagement with the Client, their advisory team and end users at design stage produced joint ownership of solutions maximising value without compromising the end user's needs. This integrated teamwork approach secured a final building that exceeded the client's initial performance specification. "The project has been planned, build and completed to an extremely high standard with a dedicated team working in close partnership with the Borough of Poole" F Miller Borough of Poole. Client involvement remained consistent throughout the delivery process with cooperation focused on risk reduction, progress reporting and quality management. This approach assisted the team to make well informed decisions at key milestones and effective planning towards a zero defect handover. Post completion evaluation has been agreed with the Client to end the process with a commitment to continuous improvement of both The McAvoy Group and the Borough of Poole
