Roofspace Solutions Pledge Tree-mendous

31st August, 2022

Roofspace Solutions has continued its tree planting pledge by committing to replace all the timber it uses during production. In 2021, Roofspace Solutions exceed its pledge to plant 2,000 new trees, following a promise to plant one mangrove tree for each pair of its i-Roof™️ components installed – equating to an estimated 600 tonnes of CO2 removed from the atmosphere.

Now it is once again working with MoreTrees, an online platform that allows businesses to plant trees wherever they are most needed in the world, in an ambition to not just offset its carbon emissions but work to reduce them altogether.

Roofspace Solutions currently uses timber during the manufacturing of its i-Roof™️ and GRDNspace products, which are typically used by national housebuilders to speed up the construction of newbuild homes. This new pledge will see the multiple planting of trees for every install, with 2,428 trees planted so far this year removing 728 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere.

Paul Terry, Managing Director of Roofspace Solutions, said: "We're pleased to have exceeded the 2,000-tree target we set last year, but think it's important that we don't just offset any carbons we produce, it's about reducing them too. Construction is one of the biggest offenders when it comes to carbon emissions, which is why we, alongside our parent company Saint-Gobain, have set an ambitious plan to be carbon neutral by 2045. This pledge to replace any timber we use during manufacturing is a key part of that, alongside steps such as reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill and minimising the energy used per unit."

Roofspace Solutions is also offering its untreated timber off-cuts to any local person, business, charity or community group who can make use of them, whether that be with a DIY project or crafting. The off-cuts are available in a range of sizes and species including spruce and pine, as well as glulam sections.
